Editorial: Edge of the World, L'Officiel Singapore print issue Oct 23

Edge of the World was recently published in Oct 2023 print issue of L’Officiel Singapore.

This was such a FUN project to be involved in, with a really playful narrative and gorgeous styling.

Before the shoot I had recently seen Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, (think whimsical space camp set in ochre desert); and when I was sent over the styling boards I immediately got Anderson vibes. There were touches of boy-scout from Moonrise Kingdom, and the feeling of a nostalgic era, but not firmly rooted in past or future. Our creative director Sophia also named Where the Wild Things Are as an inspiration. The English countryside in summer made the perfect backdrop for the shoot, from the lush greens of grass and woodlands to bleached beige hay fields; we even shot with a gorgeous little Shetland pony called Pablo!

I designed a few makeup looks as a starting point, using Wes Anderson scout-adventurer as a starting point, and adapted these on the day as we collaborated as a team. It was important that Daisy’s skin felt like it almost had no product on it at all, natural but with glow placed really precisely. For our first makeup look I focused colour on a wind-flushed cheek with a royal ruddiness. We managed to find a couple of perfectly ripe blackberries- a little early in the season, so I added a little berry colour just to the centre of Daisy’s lips for a ‘just bitten’ juicy flush.

For the second look I introduced warm, muddy tones with an undone finish on the eyes for a more amped up look; but kept skin feeling lived in and lips bare looking, with just a hint of a brown tone to tie in with the first look.

Key products:

look one:

Jillian Dempsey Cheek Tint in Scarlet

Anastasia Beverley Hills Brow Freeze

look two:

Vieve Eye Wand in Camel & Hazelnut

Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Blush in Rose Latte

It was so hard to choose a favourite look amongst all of these fabulous whimsical ones, but I really do love the meta vibes in the Rejina Pyo look below- doesn’t it feel like a perfectly Wes Anderson inspired moment?!
